Pella, Iowa

Pella, Iowa? To get there we passed many corn fields and soy bean fields and seems as if it is in the middle of no where. Pella was formed by a company of immigrants from the Netherlands who had been persecuted by religion in 1847. So it’s a little Dutch community something like Solvang in California.

This is Vermeer Windmill which is the tallest working windmill in North America. The windmill was de-assembled and re-assembled in Pella in 2002. It was named after the Vermeer family, whose dream it was to have a mill in Pella.
Pella has a historical village , but we didn’t get here in time as it closes at 4PM.
The gambler, lawman and gun slinger Wyatt Earp used to live here in this row house as a boy. See picture of plaque below explaining.

Mom and dad woke up this morning and wanted to go into the town of Pella and get a Danish before we left, but all the bakery’s were closed as it was Sunday. It didn’t matter to me because I’m sure Chico and I wouldn’t have gotten to try a Danish…..

Tomorrow St. Louis, Missouri…
