This is the first Airbnb we stayed in on this trip and we were a little unsure of the area as we saw razor barbed wire fencing in the property behind the unit, but it turned out to be okay. In fact Chico and I were able to sleep in the kitchen which was a palace compared to the other hotel bathrooms we stayed in, some of which were very small! We are in the Soulard neighborhood and it is one of the oldest in St. Louis. One group of European immigrants that settled the area were the Czechs or Bohemians. This church which was right next to us and was founded in 1854. St. John Nepomuk Catholic church is the oldest Czech church in the Americas!
Mom and dad went out to dinner at a place called Polite Society. They had some mussels and said they were soooo good! Wish I could have tried some.
We couldn’t leave without seeing the famous Arch! It was constructed between 1963 and 1965. I didn’t know this, but you can take a tram on the inside of the arch to the top and once there you can sit on one of the seats and look out over the Mississippi or back towards St. Louis. We didn’t do this, but it would have been a cool thing to do.
