Savannah, Georgia Day 2

We stayed for a second day in Savannah and mom and dad decided to do a food tour. This is there story.

We got tickets for Southern Flavors Savannah tour which started at 12 and was to end at 3 pm. We didn’t eat breakfast and thank goodness we didn’t. The group met at Tondee’s Tavern. There were 6 of us in the group plus our guide Crystal. We learned that most of the old buildings in Savannah are haunted and most of those buildings were used as cotton exchanges. Tondee’s Tavern dates back to 1853 and reportedly is one of those buildings with ghosts.
Our first bite at Tondee’s was shrimp and grits, but these grits were made with a white wine reduction. It was delish!
This is the next place we visited and the ghost that lives here is named Charlie. The story goes like this….. This building was one of the many cotton exchanges in Savannah and the boss married a young pretty women by the name of Lenore. Lenore would visit the exchange from time to time, but started visiting more often when they hired a young gallant man named Charlie. One day the boss was away for business and came back early. He went up to his office on the second floor and heard noises coming from the 3rd floor. He went up there and discovered his wife Lenore, was wearing only a corset and Charlies hat. And Charlie was wearing only what god gave him. The boss became so angry that he threw Charlie out of the 3rd floor window and he fell to his death. Charlie now haunts this building.
If you look down in the grate by the Tandem you can see Charlie and Lenore.
This is our fun group. Every stop we had food and and a choice of alcohol. In Savannah, you are allowed to carry your drink as you walk.
We made six stops in all and at this stop we had sweet tea brined chicken with mashed potatoes.
Here we had pizza, one with peaches and balsamic.
We also had pickle shots! Dill pickle brine with vodka. Tastes like pickle brine.
This is the last stop. We had pretzel and flat bread with 2 dips. We were stuffed at this point and probably a little inebriated.
Here we all are again on these scary steps!

Savannah is a beautiful place and has so much history and stories we need to come back!

Next St. Augustine, Florida….
