We made it to Winnemucca!

What a day! It all started at 4:00 am with mom and dad packing furiously before the POD people came. Oh no, they called at 7:09am and said they would be here to pick up the POD’s at around 7:45 am. More furious packing. And at 7:37am mom and dad locked the POD’s. Wow what a finish….

Here they are the Podzilla’s picking up all of our worldly goods!

Ok, so we were a little off our schedule, we were supposed to leave at 10:00am but we pulled out at 12:34pm, hoping to get to Winnemucca before sunset.

We finally made it to Winnemucca at 7:31pm and no this is not where we stayed. These pictures are of Humboldt Museum which depicts the community around 1880 where thousands of wagon trains forded the Humboldt River on their way to California. Of course it was closed, but at least we could see the “community”. This community was transformed into a lively shipping center when the railroad came into town.

Interesting fact: On September 19, 1900 Butch Cassidy rode into town with his Posse and robbed the First National Bank of Winnemucca of $32,640! There is a bronze plaque by the utility pole at the old Winnemucca Bank that proclaims Butch Cassidy robbed the bank! Winnemucca even celebrated “Butch Cassidy Days” every year for several years after the movie “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” aired.

Tomorrow, Twin Falls, Idaho…..
